The following links list tools, publications, and other resources to help prevent the most common injuries and illnesses in the petroleum (oil & gas) industry. These resources may not meet all the requirements for health and safety in British Columbia. Please check the Workers Compensation Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, and related materials for specific WorkSafeBC requirements.

Handbook for Employers: Working Alone, Late Night Retail, and Prepayment of FuelThis handbook overviews working alone, fuel prepayment, and late night retail premises requirements, and provides employers with useful forms for their workplaces. Late night retail premises include convenience stores, gas stations, and other retail stores that sell goods directly to consumers. Also included as retail premises are take-out restaurants and liquor off sales. Full service restaurants, and bars with no liquor off sales outlet are not included under these requirements.

This booklet describes the process for preventing MSI injuries in the workplace. MSI is a common type of workplace injury in all industries in British Columbia. MSI claims resulting from overexertion and repetitive motion accidents account for about one-third of claims accepted by the WCB in British Columbia. In some industries, this proportion is much higher.

Construction Safety Network -- Certificate of Recognition Program (COR)
"The B.C. Road Construction and Maintenance Safety Network and the Workers' Compensation Board have come together to provide incentives to companies in WCB Sub-Sector 0723 with the Certificate of Recognition program (COR). COR can produce significant reductions in both incidents of injury and the claim duration. In conjunction with the Worksite Partnership Program (WPP), you can also benefit from a rebate on your base WCB rate."

Safety Guide for Operations Over Ice
The purpose of this safety guide is to:
(a) specify rules of good safety practice for all Public Service employees engaged in operations on ice covers;
(b) provide information on the thickness of ice required to support moving and stationary loads;
(c) specify methods for determining ice thickness and quality; and
(d) outline approved methods for the preparation and maintenance of ice bridges.
