Many sections of the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation and Workers Compensation Act ("Act") have associated guidelines. Guidelines are intended to assist with providing ways of complying with the legislation, not to provide exclusive interpretations. Guidelines generally provide information on administrative matters and on technical matters not already addressed by policy.
Periodically, guidelines are updated and new ones added. The following list shows the new and updated guidelines for 2013.
G8.22(3)-1 Footwear - Alternate standards
This guideline has been updated to accept a newer edition of ASTM Standard F 2413.
G16.13 Braking requirements - Mobile equipment - Alternate standard 
This new guideline provides an alternative standard to Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Standard J1178 ISO11169 DEC94, Machinery for Forestry - Wheeled Special Machines - Vocabulary, Performance Test Methods, and Criteria for Brake Systems, which has been withdrawn.
G19.16-1 Isolation and lockout
This guideline has been amended to reflect changes to the Safety Practice Regulations and WorkSafeBC acceptance of procedures developed under the Safety Practice Regulations.
G5.48-2 Annual revisions to exposure limits
This guideline has been updated to clarify use of Prevention Policies Policy Item: R5.48-1.
The Table of Exposure Limits has been updated to account for 2013 amendments to ACGIH TLVs. Recent revisions to the Table are highlighted in green.
G14.96 Light duty portable construction material hoists 
This new guideline clarifies that light duty portable hoists are not required to meet the requirements of the applicable CSA Standard or some of the regulatory requirements for engineering certification.
G19.8(1) Testing equipment - Standards acceptable to WorkSafeBC
This guideline has been updated to add an additional acceptable standard.

G11.1 Definitions - Anchor and anchorage 
This new guideline provides an explanation of the terms anchor, anchorage, and anchorage connector in the OHS Regulation.
G11.3 Fall protection plan
This guideline has been updated due to a regulatory amendment to OHS Regulation section 11.1. The guideline clarifies that anchors and anchorages need to be addressed in the written fall protection plan.
G11.5-1 Equipment standards
This guideline has been updated to add additional applicable CSA and ANSI standards.
G11.6-2 Anchor selection and use
This guideline has been updated to align with a regulatory amendment to section 11.6.
G11.10(0.1) Fall protection anchors - Inspection and removal from service 
This new guideline provides information regarding inspection and recertification of permanent anchors by a professional engineer.
G11.5-2 Equipment standards - Vertical lifelines
This guideline has been updated to add reference to a new edition of a CSA standard and to emphasize the importance of the compatibility of fall protection components.
G13.2 Standards
This guideline has been updated to allow for the application of a new edition of CSA Z271 and to clarify the application of CSA Z91.
G13.2(1)-2 Application of CSA and ANSI standards for suspended stages
This guideline has been updated to add new editions of CSA and ANSI standards and to clarify the meaning of building maintenance.
G13.8 General requirements - Chair design
This guideline has been updated to include a reference to revised CSA Standard Z271 rather than include prescriptive information.
G13.32-1 Work in high-risk situations - Alternate standard for suspended stages 
This new guideline specifies a new edition of CSA Z271 as an acceptable alternate standard and clarifies its application to swing stages.
G16.13(3) Braking requirements - Mobile equipment 
This new guideline describes brake performance requirements and the types of off-road mobile equipment this section applies to.
G3.19 First aid records
This guideline has been updated to remove the reference to a policy that is no longer in place, and to provide additional clarity on access to records.
G26.68 Binder cinches 
This guideline addresses modifications to binder cinches. Often modifications are undertaken which impair the integrity of the components of binder cinches. The guideline describes ways modifications can be made without impairing the integrity of the cinch.
