Assessment rates for most construction-related businesses will either decrease or remain the same for 2002. More than 70 per cent of construction-related classification units will see rates drop or remain constant for the next year.
Of the 65 classification units in the construction industry, 21 will see their rate decrease. Another 25 will stay the same, and 19 classification units will see rate increases --of those, 14 will see an increase of less than 10 per cent. Only five units will see rates rise above 10 per cent.

This article graphically illustrates the most common causes of fatalities in the construction industry. The proportion of work-related deaths has been changing with single-incident deaths decreasing and work-related disease deaths increasing.

To help high-risk industries take ownership of health and safety issues in 1999 the Workers' Compensation Board's Panel of Administrators passed a resolution that facilitated the funding of external groups. This funding allows the formation of industry agencies that promote both the prevention of occupational injuries and disease through education and training and the awareness of the human and financial costs of accidents or disease in the sector.
