This lesson introduces students to safety legal requirements and policies relevant to the hospitality industry.

Students will:
  • locate and name the sections of the OH&S Regulation specific to the hospitality sector
  • provide a brief written overview of each 'part' of the safety regulations as it applies to Food & Beverage and Accommodations

INSTRUCTIONAL PLAN



  1. Introduce Occupational Health & Safety Regulations as the general safety requirements that apply to all industrial workplaces as well as any specific requirements for the Hospitality industry.
  2. Instruct students to go online and identify the sectors of the hospitality and tourism industry.
  3. Instruct students to locate and name the regulations under Part 4 General Conditions in each of the hospitality sectors.
  4. Facilitate an in-class discussion on students' findings for the hospitality sectors (Food & Beverage and Accommodations)
  5. Ask students to:
    • provide a written overview of each 'part' of the Regulation
    • describe the occupational safety regulations relevant to the hospitality industry
    • describe how the regulations apply to making the hospitality industry safer
