LESSON #3

PURPOSE



This lesson provides students with the opportunity to see the importance of safety through the eyes of injured young workers. Students will reflect on the consequences of unsafe work practices, lack of training, and not using personal protective equipment. They will also learn how proper training programs will help prevent accidents in the workplace.

INSTRUCTIONAL PLAN



  1. Invite speakers from WorkSafeBC Young Worker Speakers Resource
  2. Prepare the class in advance to listen to the safety message from the speaker and to come prepared to ask questions of the speaker in order to explore the impact of workplace injuries
  3. Moderate a candid discussion on the impact of workplace injuries between the students and guess speaker
  4. Instruct students to complete an essay on the profound emotional, mental and physical impacts on workplace injuries through the eyes of the speaker's experience
