PURPOSE



This lesson identifies and highlights the employers and supervisors responsibility to ensure a safe working environment and to provide proper training and supervision to avoid potential accidents.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES



Students will:
  • complete pre-post discussion/quiz on the role and responsibility of supervisors and employers to ensure that workers are adequately informed, instructed, trained and supervised in carrying out their work safety
  • verbally describe the rights and responsibilities for employers, supervisors and workers in creating a safe workplace

INSTRUCTIONAL PLAN



  1. Download The Supervisor video Discussion Guide and pre-order The Supervisor video
  2. Ask students to pre-read Rights and Responsibilities on pgs. 5-6 in 3 Steps to Effective Worker Education and Training booklet
  3. Initiate a discussion on the rights and responsibilities of workers and supervisors
  4. Post the six questions as outlined on page 8 of the video discussion guide to assist students to participate while watching the video
  5. Encourage students to record any thoughts or feelings that occurred to them while viewing the video
  6. Show the video
  7. Organize small discussion groups of three to four students for post-viewing discussions
  8. If there's time, have students complete the Health and Safety Responsibility quiz on page 18 of the discussion guide
  9. Review answers to see how much they retained
  10. Fill in any gaps in understanding
