LESSON #3

PURPOSE



This lesson introduces students to the Workers' Compensation insurance system and the costs of worker injuries, and outlines the importance of proper incident reporting.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES



Students will:
  • demonstrate knowledge of the Workers' Compensation insurance system through researching, preparing and presenting a group presentation on specific areas of the insurance system
  • participate in an interactive online program that helps students demonstrate their knowledge of the total accident and recovery costs and time associated with workplace injuries

INSTRUCTIONAL PLAN



  1. Instruct students to individually start the online program or create a group participation exercise using lap top and LCD projector
  2. Under the 'Home' tab show students/have them identify the different accidents and costs associated with various workplace injuries
  3. Under the 'Calculator' tab show students/have them identify how to calculate costs and number of days to recover accident costs for any one of the accident scenarios
  4. Divide students into groups and have them create their own accident scenario and fill in the costs
  5. Ask each group to present to the class their Accident Costs Summary report
