CONSTRUCTION

OPERATOR CRUSHED BY FRONT LOADER BOOM-ARM CROSS-BEAM

Do not exit a front loader when bucket is in raised position! Always lower bucket before exiting!

The operator was exiting a rubber-tired front loader with the bucket still in the raised position, when his rain jacket caught on the arm-control lever. The snagged jacket caused him to slip, activating the bucket-arm control. He was trapped on the frame when the bucket dropped. He suffered serious injuries when crushed between the boom arms and the machine frame.


	EMPLOYERS: Workers must have adequate direction and instruction in how to safely perform their duties. Ensure that all interlocks and other safety devices are functioning properly. Ensure that mobile equipment is maintained in accordance with manufacturers' recommendations. WORKERS: You must follow all safe work procedures and not exit a machine when the bucket is raised.
