Roofer falls off edge

Accidental falls are the number one cause of serious injury to roofers. A roofer suffered multiple fractures when he fell approximately 30 ft. (9 m) off the edge of a roof. He was power sweeping a flat roof when he lost his balance and fell off the unguarded, unprotected edge. The worker had no training or written safe work procedures for working near the edge of a roof.

Prevention alert:

  • Provide all roof workers with written safe work procedures for work on roofs and near roof edges.
  • Ensure that workers and supervisors are trained in these procedures.
